Creating an effective web site takes planning. Think
about the goals you want to accomplish with your web site.
Are you promoting your company image or selling something?
Do you have an establish customer base or do you expect the web
site to "sell itself?"
What are you going to put on the pages of your
site? Content is much more important than all the pretty
"bells and whistles" you see on so many sites. While a
picture may be worth a thousand words, when it takes too long to
download a half-dozen photos you may as well keep quiet
because your customers have probably moved on.
In addition, it's a good idea to change or rearrange your
content from time to time. Your customers will come back more
often if you give them a reason to visit again.
Don't fool yourself into thinking a web site is the answer to
the question "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" You
will need to work at promoting your site. You should print
your web site address on business cards, letterhead, invoices and
all advertising pieces you produce. Just like when you move
into a new home, no one will come visit unless you tell them where
you live!
